When people recognize me, it's often because of my podcast show #ChatsWithChels or from being one of the faces of dooryard co. But, what a lot of you may not know, is that I am also the Director of Marketing with the Miramichi River Tourism Association (Discover Miramichi). For the past three years, this role has had me out exploring the Miramichi Region (like a traveller would) and not to *toot* my own horn, but I've gotten some prettttty great insta shots over the years and thought I would share some of my favourite places to grab a snap-shot.
Creative Grounds Cafe
This cafe in Chatham is super cozy with an eclectic decor, the Miramichi mudslide coffee is to die for AND you get to support a young Miramichi entrepreneur while capturing your perfect insta shot.
but wait there's more....
We all know that behind every great Instagrammer is... a brick wall and Creative Grounds has the perfect mural outside!
I am convinced that the manager of Metepenagiag, Patricia, is secretly Wonder Woman. From changing light bulbs to creating awesome Facebook content, Patricia can light up any visit. If you are staying at Metepenagiag Lodge, you'll also have the chance to meet Jan or as he calls himself "the barefoot gourmet", a wonderful chef (and storyteller!)
Apart from the awesome hospitality, there's a sense of awe as you wander grounds that have been inhabited for over thirty centuries while learning about the traditional Mi'Kmaq way of life (and you can organize an overnight stay in the tipis!)
At the wharf, you can find dozens of boats swaying a long in the water and chances are you'll be fortunate enough to chat with some local fishermen, plus, if you visit in season you may have the opportunity to grab fresh lobster!
The Tabusintac Lighthouse
It wouldn't be a proper trip to the maritimes without visiting a lighthouse or two, bring a picnic to enjoy on the lighthouse grounds, and for perfect views, climb to the top!
Speaking of lighthouses.... The bright colours of Ritchie Wharf make for the perfect backdrop to any photo.
And while you're there... take in the patio at VERA
This quaint patio overlooks the Miramichi serving dishes that are not only delicious but fresh and often using locally sourced ingredients!
#ShareTheChair at Beaubears Island & Kouchibouguac
All throughout our National Parks are red chairs that not only offer scenic outlooks but are the perfect spot for snapping a pic for Insta, don't forget to use #ShareTheChair This is also the perfect opportunity to take in a Tour through Time at Beaubears Island where eccentric characters await you around every turn!
The Priceville Footbridge
Okay, if we're being totally honest, I am terrified of heights and have only made it half way across both times, but The Priceville Footbridge which connects the historic communities of Priceville and Mcnamee is the perfect place to grab those instashots that make you look #daring.
If you're looking for somewhere great to stay in the area of the foot-bridge, I'd recommend Storeytown Cottages, with their wide variety of water activities (paddleboarding, tubing, canoeing and kayaking) not to mention their extra cute dog Scotch!
The Richibucto River Wine Estate
Sweeping vineyards overlooking the river, tours and tastings of award winning wines. What more could you ask for?
And another patio.....
What can I say? I love summertime sitting on patios and the exposed brick & decor at The Boulevard Pub in Newcastle makes it extra insta-worthy. Plus, you can't beat the friendly staff & delicious sangria!
