I was so excited to welcome Lynn Guppy to Chats with Chels (watch the episode here). Lynn works with you to build a list of gift ideas that are both thoughtful and from local vendors; she then wraps and delivers the gift to your recipient.
As a lover of all things local, I've put together a list of some local gift ideas that will help support our fellow small business owners this holiday season!
Tis the Season
After finding NL Seasonings at the farmers market, I've been in love! They have everything from moose seasoning to sea salt and duck spice. This is perfect for any aspiring grill masters in your life, or even the hunter! While you're at the market, grab some Five Brothers Cheese for your holiday guests and some preserves from the Jewish Deli!
A Quick Lunch
LunchIn has saved me from hangriness so many times. They will deliver a healthy lunch right to the door (or desk!) of the gift card recipient. Perfect for the person you know who is always on the go.
The Gift of Space
Common Ground Coworking now offers gift cards which is ahh-mazing. They are a coworking space on Harvey Rd where members can pay a monthly fee for 24/7 access to a quiet workspace, unlimited coffee and meeting room space. This is perfect to help the solopreneur you know get out of the house, for students who need a place to study or even as a donation for a non profit to use for meeting room space.
The Gift That Keeps On Giving
I was also excited to welcome Hasan, NL's most interesting person to Chats with Chels (see the episode here). Hasan is the brains (and beard) behind the MerBy's calendar, a calendar full of whimsical mer-men of all shapes and sizes. All proceeds from the calendar are being donated to Spirit Horse NL.
A Majestic Beard
To keep your loved ones (or even your own #treatyoself) beard majestic and luscious like the aforementioned MerB'ys, you can purchase the Newfound Beard Oil
A RAD (ler) Gift
The Third Place Cocktails offer a wide selection of premium bar mixes: tonic, elder flower, ginger rose and of course radler! From what I hear, the Radler pairs well with the gift of Fogtown Beer *not a hint*. This is a perfect hostess gift or for the cocktail conisseur on your list.
A Junk of Wood
I've been in love with "Junks of Wood" since I saw them! They're extra cute, especially for someone living away and missing home, they're easy to mail!
Sometimes experiences can be even better than things, why not treat the person you love to a night out at Jack Axes?
An Ex-Beer-ience or an Axe-Beer-Ience
After going on beer tours all around the world, Kayla Walters founded St. John's Beer tours in 2017, walking tours that incorporate BEER! They will be returning in June 2018 but until then, you can get the beer lover in your life a gift card to use toward their tours! Choose between hoppy highlights, the ultimate townie tour or even combine your love of beer and throwing things with the Axes and Ales tour!
Their Face (on a bus!)
I recently met Ryan Lancaster of the Million Dollar Bus. This initiative has travelled across the country selling squares on the bus all in support of local charity organizations. You could have a friend's business logo printed or even a photo of them (or their cat!) for as low as $10.
The Gift of Self Care
Doodle Lovely offers stationary with a unique twist, it is designed to help inspire self care for the busy person! There is also colouring books and super cute home decor on their online store!
I tell everyone who will listen how amazing Soul Azteka is. If anyone is looking for a gift for me this holiday season, a lifetime supply of diablo salsa will do. Alternately, I recently saw they have taco bucks! The perfect gift for the taco lover on your list. [Photo by the Food Girl In Town, Gabby Peyton]
Delight, Curry Delight!
One of my favourite SJFM market vendors Curry Delight is offering gift certificates this holiday season! Perfect for the farmer's market lover in your life, or you can even save mom from cooking dinner for the family by using it toward their catering service! *Don't miss the spinach potato curry it is the best!*
A Chuckle & A Chocolate
If you haven't tried the Newfoundland Chocolate Company's "NL Sayings" bars yet, you are missing out. They have traditional NL phrases on them like "Oh Me Nerves" or "Arse on Dat!" plus they are to die for! We love how Judy's Home & Gift paired the bar with a Foggy Island Candle & SJSW soap for this photo; a truly local gift combo!
The Gift of Awesome!
If you know an entrepreneur looking to get a website off the ground, or a friend with a business card that says "I haven't been upgraded since the nineties", I would love to help you out by surprising them! You can get in touch by emailing Chels@ChelsB.com to get started.
